Introduction

Informatics Department

‘The Department of Informatics’ was decided to be established as a subsidiary of the University and Chanceries within High Technology Institutes with the Institute of Higher Education’s decision dated 17.06.1997 and numbered 97.19.1429. It was requested on the same decision that ‘Basic Information Technology Use’ is compulsory course to teach all students the basic information technologies during the first term and also was requested students to choose at least one of Basic Computer Sciences courses during the remaining period of their education.

Establishment Purposes of the Department of Informatics:

  1. To make regulations with necessary organizations to teach Basic Information Technologies courses and to coordinate these courses in accordance with the article 7/d-2 of the Law No 2547 changed by Law No 2880.

  2. To coordinate and/or conduct compulsory and elective courses in accordance with the article 7/e of the Law 2547 changed by Law No 2880.

  3. To prepare, improve and publish on the internet the content of the Basic Information Technology and Basic Computer Sciences courses in the campus for distance learning; to prepare and to publish other courses. To prepare, improve and publish courses given to the Department of Informatics from the courses that are offered outside the campus; to publish and monitor the other courses.

  4. To fulfil the multimedia needs of the university and other institutions (demo cds, yearbooks, webpages etc.)

Primary Duties of the Department of Informatics:

  • To make regulations and organizations for computer education.
  • To coordinate and conduct the computer courses.
  • To provide internet services for students at the laboratories for personal use.

Additionally:

  • Distance education studies in virtual environment.

  • To organize various computer courses for academic and administrative personnel.

  • To organize various computer courses for students and industry.

  • To make hardware and software configurations for computer labs and networks.
